If you've run out of cooking gas, you're struggling to light a campfire, or you've got an issue with your camping stove, then no need to worry. As long as you have a tin and piercer handy then you can quickly and easily set up your own hobo stove in less than 5 minutes.
A hobo stove is one of the most efficient ways to produce heat, avoids all of the mess and preparations that a penny stove brings and reduces the footprint and impact you leave at your campsite, as long as you remember to take your stove with you when you leave.

Here's our video and the steps to create your very own hobo stove below:
Remove the lid, contents and wrapper from your tin (and give it a rinse if you can).
Pierce 6-8 triangle holes in the bottom of the can.
Pierce an identical 6-8 triangle holes in the top of the can.
Prick, nail or tap a series of small holes all around the can (a third from the bottom).
Insert sticks and pack reasonably tightly.
Light from the top, waiting a few minutes for it to self-prime.

Once you've followed these half a dozen steps you can place your mess tin or pan on top and the stove will continue to burn at high heat.
Air will vacuum from the bottom and keep the flame alight and the triangle holes will allow the stove to efficiently burn.
As ash forms in the bottom, the air holes you made, a third of the way up, will allow the stove to continue to breathe while it burns for up to an hour.
If you've made your own hobo stove post a photo in the comments (and feel free to show off your favorite campfire stew!).
